Desert Getaway

A low, flat-roofed house set directly into the black lava rock above St. George, glazed on the desert side to take the red-rock horizon.

Dark stone and board cladding keep the massing quiet against the volcanic ground, while deep overhangs shade the glass through the hottest part of the day. The living spaces run along the view edge and open onto a pool terrace cut into the rock.
